SMOC’s Vancouver Island Museum Tour – Two Terrific Days in Victoria

Ever wanted to meet Ivan Sayers and fellow SMOC devotees from Vancouver? You have the chance to do so in Victoria!

Special pricing is available for the Victoria only portion of SMOC’s Vancouver Island Museum 2-day Tour. Priced at $185 for SMOC members and $205 for non-members, participants will be treated to the list of events that follows. Sunday July 28 at:
Point Ellis House (2616 Pleasant Street) 1:00 PM, 2 hours on site
High Tea will be served on arrival. Group will be divided into two tours, garden and house in turns. Mikhaela Gatien, Curator, will take extra costumes out of storage for our viewing pleasure, and has planned a “textile surprise” for us.

Monday, July 29 at:

Royal BC Museum (675 Belleville Street) 10:00 AM, 1.5 hours on site
A behind-the-scenes look at collection, conservation and display. Delphine Castles, Manager within the Care and Collections section, will guide our groups (divided into two), so each may view a different aspect of the work in turns.

Lunch at Princess Mary (included except alcohol) 12:00 PM, 45 min

Craigdarroch Castle (1050 Joan Crescent) 1:30 PM, 1 hour on site
The castle has 300 Victorian costumes, some displayed on mannequins throughout the castle. The castle may be able to provide a docent dedicated to costume and textiles.

Government House (1401 Rockland Avenue) 2:45 PM
A private tour to view the collection of Governor General and First Lady’s gowns of the past century, enjoy refreshments in the Tea Room and a stroll through the most beautiful garden in Victoria, all lovingly maintained by volunteers.
